Top 5 Fifty Shades of Grey Movie Casting Rumors of 2012: From Ian Somerhalder to Play Christian Grey to Fourth Book

"Fifty Shades of Grey" has definitely been the talk of the world this year.

When E.L. James released her erotic series featuring 27-year-old sexy billionaire Christian Grey and 22-year-old virginal Anastasia Steele, the author and readers alike had no idea how big the series would become.

In honor of a successful 2012-year and bringing on (hopefully) new details in terms of the upcoming "Fifty Shades" movie, we put together the top 5 rumors of 2012 (plus an honorable mention).

1. Emma Watson Wants Ana Steele Role if Ryan Gosling is Christian Grey

This rumor was a biggie. Emma Watson, 22, has been a part of the Ana Steele contenders ever since talk of "Fifty Shades" existed. She has always shot down rumors but in September a new rumor emerged that she would only play Ana Steele if "Drive" star Ryan Gosling were to play Christian.

Ryan Seacrest tweeted, .@EmWatson told me she'd be far more interested in playing Anastasia in 50 Shades of Grey if Ryan Gosling plays Christian. #mugglelove."

According to E! Online, "The Vampire Diaries" star Nina Dobrev told Seacrest during an interview that Watson was nervous when reading the books.

"She's laughing, a little bit nervously as I'm sure everybody was when they read those books," Dobrev relayed to Seacrest during a phone call On Air on 102.7 KIIS FM. Dobrev costars with Watson in their upcoming movie "Perks of Being a Wallflower."

"She would be far more interested if he were playing Christian Grey," Dobrev continued about Watson's apparent infatuation with Gosling. "I guess that's all it takes."

We still don't know is this is true or not, but "Fifty Shades" fans definitely wouldn't mind if Gosling was to play the important role of Christian.

2. Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart to Play Ana and Christian

This real-life couple could very well play the star roles because James based her two love characters on "Twilight" characters Bella and Edward, played by Stewart and Pattinson. So it would seem natural that many fans would love them to play the key roles.

A popular "Fifty Shades" fan-made trailer surfaced in August that featured Stewart and Pattinson as Ana and Christian.

The video is shot and black and white. There are scenes from the original "Twilight" films, wherePattinson and Stewart star as Edward and Bella. There are a series of close-ups, followed by the make out scene in the first "Twilight" film. The words "pleasure" and "pain" flash across the screen in red letters, and the letters "S E X" come across the video as well. Pattinson and Stewart are shot with various screen shots, which show smiling, sneering, brooding, and sexiness.

To add to the madness, Pattinson, 26, recently (November) spoke about playing Christian Grey in an interview with MSN.

"I am playing that part," he said like he was giving a serious answer. He added, "I also wrote the book." Then he laughed. Fans would of definitely took him seriously and probably would of fainted. He is considered a serious contender anyway since he is the "Sexiest Man Alive."

3. Ian Somerhalder and Henry Cavill in Talks with Producers for Christian Grey Role

"The Vampire Diaries" star Ian Somerhalder is probably the top contender to play Christian. Female fans scream over his sexiness when he plays Damon in his hit CW TV series. He's spoke about playing the part multiple times in interviews. A rumor emerged that got fans excited.

Back in August, several reports said that Somerhalder was traveling to Los Angeles to meet with "Fifty Shades" people next week.

He reportedly revealed this information to his fans at "The Vampire Diaries" Convention in New Jersey.

Fifty Shades Source and Fifty Shades Film reported several tweets that confirmed this news:

@icebrat515: Ah @iansomerhalder is flying to La next week to meet with #50ShadesMovie people next week.

@IanforChristianGrey: omgggg Ian said he is going to la soon to meet with people for 50 shades of grey!!!!!!!!

@yvetteraven1: Ian threw it out to the fans to help him rehearse for Fifty Shades. #TVDCON #tvdnj" @FiftyShadesFilm. He said this during a press conference

We all know that producer Michael De Luca denied the rumors by tweeting to his followers, "We haven't met on this, appears to be a rumor."

Around the same time in August, another report said that "Superman" star Henry Cavill was in preliminary talks with producers.

According to Policy Mic, Cavill met De Luca in early July at Luca's office in Culvar City, Cali., where Cavill was promoting his upcoming movie "Man of Steel" at Comic-Con San Diego. Rumors claim "The Tudors" actor was seen coming in and out of De Luca's home/office while wearing Christian Grey's signature plaid shirt and five o'clock shadow. Again, this has not been confirmed and both producers and author denied many rumors of Ana Steele and Christian Grey rumors.

4. E.L. James' to Release a Fourth Book, Maybe in Christian Grey's Perspective

Back in the end of August, rumors emerged that James will release a fourth "Fifty Shades" book.

Ohnotheydidnt.livejournal.com reported that a rep was speaking to gathered "Fifty Shades" fans.

"While waiting to get E L James' autograph, a rep for Vintage books (the company that published Fifty Shades of Grey) was speaking to those of us gathered in the autograph line. When he mentioned off-hand to me and a few of the other fans gathered there that there was "something exciting" about to happen in the Fifty Shades universe, we all leaned in to listen, which is when he announced that there would be a (shhhhhhhh!) FOURTH FIFTY SHADES NOVEL. I sprang into action, and asked as many questions as I could," wrote ONTD Live Journal. The rep said that he/she already read the first five pages of the book.

This goes along with another rumor that came a week later.

TheStir.Cafemom.com revealed that the bestselling author might be rewriting the book in Christian's perspective.

The New York Daily News reported, "A source close to the British author ... tells us that the self-made fiction phenom is considering rewriting the best-selling trilogy ... from the perspective of the novels' riding-crop-wielding billionaire, Christian Grey."

This ties into the rumor of the fourth book. James does give a glimpse of what Christian is thinking when he first meets Ana at the end of "Fifty Shades Freed."

5. Kim Cattrall Denied Rumors of Playing Mrs. Robinson

This one a huge deal since the "Sex and the City" star is a big fan-favorite to play Elena Lincoln a.k.a. Mrs. Robinson.

Back in August, Cattrall denied rumors that she is playing Mrs. Robinson, According to Digital Spy.

"No one has told me about that, but I thoroughly enjoyed the book," she is quoted as saying in The Sun.

Cattrall elaborated on being a fan of the book, and added that it has had a positive effect on older women.

"It's fun - whatever turns you on. All these women of a certain age are finally having fun and what's wrong with that? We're all adults."

Recently in October though, the 56-year-old star confirmed she is being considered for the role of Elena, according to BelfastTelegraph.

"As far as I'm aware it's potentially between me and Uma Thurman," Cattrall told Australian radio show hosts Kyle and Jackie O. "I think we are in minds at the moment. That's based on a lot of people's blogs and desires at the moment. As far as I know they are still writing the script so the casting is some way down the line."

Many rumors still surround the popular "Fifty Shades of Grey" movie. We couldn't fit them all on our list, but we have an honorable mention. It is no other than Angelina Jolie being involved in the movie no matter if its director or actually playing young Ana Steele (which many fans object to because she is too old).

In October it was rumored that the "Tomb Raider" actress might direct the racy film.  E! Online threw the suggestion out there in their report saying that it is possible.

In June, Deadline reported that Jolie was having a conversation or two about directing the movie. It said, "The studio says that no discussions have been had, but they note that if she was interested, that the studio would be also. They loved her directorial debut, In The Land Of Blood And Honey."

Back in August the rumors started that Jolie wanted to play Ana in the upcoming movie.

According to The National Ledger, Jolie has apparently been reading the novel dubbed as 'mommy porn' after being introduced to it while shooting her new film in the United Kingdom.

Workers on the set of "Maleficent" persuaded the 37-year-old actress to pick up E.L. James' book and since then she has become interested in a part in the forthcoming motion picture.

A source told the Daily Mirror newspaper, "Angelina kept hearing about the book while she was in the UK. All the girls on set were talking about it and how it's being made into a film.

"Angelina went out and bought herself a copy, thinking she'd love a part in the hot topic on everyone's lips at the moment. She knows the film is bound to be a huge hit." The insider continued, "Ange is dead-set on a major part. She's up for the challenge."
