Man Arrested for Assaulting Mother with Potato Salad

A Bradenton man was arrested on Saturday evening for assaulting his mother with her dinner-in particular, a chicken and potato salad dinner, The Smoking Gun reports. Jonathan Smith, 34, apparently grabbed a handful of the salad as his mother, Jennifer, sat down in their living room to eat.

"Jonathan grabbed a hand full of potato salad and threw it," hitting his mother in her face, the responding cops reported. Upon arrival at the scene, Jennifer was seen with "food all over her and in her hair."

Jennifer recounted how she yelled for him to stop but he "continued to throw food at his mother." The attack did not end there. Smith even went so far as to push her to the ground and pull her across the floor by her legs. He also "spitted on her."

When threatened with a 911 call, Jonathan fled the scene on his bicycle. He did not get too far was as arrested a few blocks away. A cop reported that Smith "appeared to be intoxicated."

His actions have earned him a misdemeanor battery count. This also appears to come at a bad time as it has been revealed that he most likely violated his probation from a previous felony conviction. He is due to face the charges in court on September 24.

Food pelting is all the rage now as Smith's case comes only days after reports came in that Matthew Burnett, 40, "smashed a plate of sauerkraut" into his girlfriend's face. Again, an argument preceded the domestic violence which occurred in Ramada Inn, Sarasota.

The victim was also pushed against a wall and her glasses were forcibly removed from her face. Burnett was arrested on a misdemeanor domestic battery charge and was booked into county jail. A $500 bond released him from this. He is scheduled for a court hearing on September 22.
