Artificial Sweetener Can Lead to Type 2 Diabetes

Summer time is just around the corner. In a few months, people will be taking in the warm sun, swimming and enjoying barbeques with their family and friends. Most of these summer gathering will include a cold glass of soda. There have been plenty of studies that supported the claim that soda is full of sugar and possess no nutritional value for the body. People drink soda because it can be refreshing on a hot day and of course it tastes great. These sugary induced beverages are also loaded with calories and contain a large amount of carbohydrates. This caused some avid soda drinkers to begin drinking diet which contains zero calories, instead they have sugar substitutes.

This week, there are many articles trending the web because studies are showing that diet soda can cause type 2 diabetes. According to Food Navigator, a study was performed in Europe on 65,000 women for well over 14 years; they kept track of how much artificially sweetened beverages and diet soda their bodies were taking in. The research supported the claim that the more artificial sweetener or diet soda these women consumed the more likely they were to obtain type 2 Diabetes. The study revealed a remarkable fact; the women that drank artificially enhanced drinks were more likely to get type 2 Diabetes than those that drank beverages with real sugar. The human body can detect artificial sweetener from the real thing therefore it can cause the body to consume more sugar than it normally would. It makes the body crave sugar, after all our bodies are fueled by carbohydrates and sugar. We should be eating natural sugars that are found in fruits and vegetables but many of us fail to do so. This summer, when you are sitting by the pool, you may want to grab an iced lemon water and leave the soda at the grocery store.
