Sugar is often blamed for obesity and other illnesses. Though this may be true, sugar is important to one's body as well.

If sugar is taken in big quantities; it is indeed harmful and may cause diabetes. Numerous studies and reports have emerged stating that sugar is toxic to one's health.

Little did we know that though sugar may be harmful, our bodies would not be able to function properly without it. Natural sugars, the ones that are found in fruits and lactose or also known as milk sugar are the ones that benefit an individual's diet.

On the other hand, added sugar is responsible for most problems that stem from obesity. This sugar is usually store-bought and are found in many meals served at restaurants and fast food chains. 

In order to lessen health risk, it is highly recommended that consumers carefully read food labels of products they purchase.  Most food packages contain both naturally occurring and added sugar, however, most labels lump both kinds giving the consumers one combined total.

In 2014, the FDA suggested that food companies should separate and provide the content of the product in detail in order to give customers a clearer idea of what they're putting in their bodies.
