American Idol All-Time Low: Ratings Drop, Yet Still Most Watched Program of the Night

"American Idol' has seen its' fair share of struggles over the recent years.

With the addition of Nicki Minaj, Keith Urban and Mariah Carey, Idol felt as though they were reinvigorating their key demographic of 18-49, but as Thursday night's ratings show, quite the opposite is occurring.

This past Thursday's show brought in an all-time series low rating of 2.7/9 according to Yahoo, which is down 4 percent from the previous Thursday night show.

This shouldn't be confused with Idol's Wednesday night show, where the contestants actually compete. Thursday night is merely the "vote-off" show where the bottom contestant goes home and features duets amongst the contestants as well as surprise performances from pop-stars. This week, Keith Urban performed some of his new material.

Although the ratings were low, which will go up a bit as ratings are adjusted according to Yahoo, Idol still pulled in the nights most viewers with 11 million people tuning in. This landed Fox in first-place in total viewers for Thursday night.

The prime competitors, ABC and CBS, tied for first in average ratings at 2.3/7, just above Fox, but finished just below in total viewers.

ABC finished second in total viewers with 7 million.

"Grey's Anatomy" dipped 7 percent from last week, according to Yahoo, but won the demographic with a 2.8/8 rating.

CBS finished in third in total viewers with 6.9 million. The network also aired the NCAA Basketball Playoffs, but those numbers are approximate due to "the nature of live sports", according to Yahoo.

Fox finished the night with an overall average rating of 2.0/6.

Further down the list, Univision finished in fourth with a 1.4/4 rating, The CW came in fifth with a 0.9/3 rating and NBC took sixth place with a .8/2 rating, who ran only repeat episodes, aside from "1600 Penn", which dropped 22 percent and fell to a series low of 0.7/2.
