Fast & Furious 8 Will Be Helmed By Straight Outta Compton Director

Over the last weeks, there has been a lot of talk about the possible director of the upcoming installment in what has become a multi-billion dollar franchise - Fast & Furious. There have been a lot of names surfacing around that could possibly take the chair to helm the Furious 8. But now, it looks like the production is circling a rather unexpected candidate for the job - Straight Outta Compton director F. Gary Gray.

Reportedly, a Universal Pictures' insider searched for a director to take over the next chapter of the Fast & Furious franchise, and said that director F. Gary Gray has jumped to the head of the pack as far as contenders go.

It has been said that the studio executives are going to meet with the American actor and producer - Vin Diesel and the American film producer - Neal Moritz, and that they will likely decide between the Straight Outta Compton director - Gray and another director. The report speculates that the other contender is the French film director whose films include the first two Transporter films - Louis Leterrier. However, rumor has it that director F. Gary Gray has the edge.

As director F. Gary Gray is also a hugely versatile director. His resume crosses a lot of genre boundaries, all of which come into play in the movies of Fast & Furious.

Director Gray showed he has a strong handle in the 1995 American stoner buddy crime comedy - Friday, Gray did a solid thriller in The Negotiator, and has a number of big action motion pictures which includes the 2003 heist film - The Italian Job and the 2009 American crime drama thriller film - Law Abiding Citizen.

And director F. Gary Gray already collaborated with a couple of the key cast members, as he helmed the 'A Man Apart' in 2003 of Vin Diesel, and the 2005  Be Cool that starred Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson.
