When Dinner Meets Dessert

When one hears the words "food fusion", thoughts of two elegant dishes and their exquisite balance come to mind. It can be a huge helping of an All-American spaghetti bursting with Thai-inspired spice, or simply traditional sushi created to tease the palate by adding cream cheese and smoked salmon. No matter what comes to mind when creating these mouth-watering dishes, the word fusion is not enough to describe some wild food mashups that are found in restaurants all over the United States. Some of these foods may have a horrific effect on you, while others will make wonder why you had not thought of them first.

CNN recently compiled 16 insane food mashups, with a mix of food ranging from weird to pleasantly shocking. Ramen Burger, for instance, is a combination of the most common and well loved comfort food from the U.S and Japan. It's basically a beef patty between two ramen noodle "buns." A secret recipe of Shoyu soy sauce, arugula, and scallions are also found in this one of a kind concoction. If you're feeling the need to try it, the burger joint is located in Los Angeles and New York. The burger's creator, Keizo Shimamoto, says its version is different from other ramen burger joints. "The ramen noodles stay together as a bun, but when you bite into it, it falls apart in your mouth. That's something knock-offs are not able to do," he added.

Another crazy combination of food is the most common lasagna with Nutella "sauce." This may sound like something someone concocted late at night and the cupboard was bare, but it's actually on the menu at a Brooklyn bakery. This dessert involves pasta sheets with Nutella chocolate layered in between. If you're living in New York City, drop by Robicelli's Bakery. However if you don't live in the area, this food fusion's maker says you can still order Nutella lasagna and have it shipped wherever you are in the United States.
