Watching Fictional TV Drama Series Can be a Sign of High EQ

A new research that was conducted cited that "individuals who watch Grey's Anatomy or Mad Men have higher EQ. as per Elite Daily, Psychology of Aesthetics, Creativity and the Arts published a study stating that emotional award winning TV dramas are more empathetic than their peers who doesn't watch.

The research was conducted by gathering participants and dividing them into two groups. The first group were tasked to watch "Mad Men" or "The West Wing" while the second group on the other hand was tasked to watch non-fiction shows such as "How the Universe Works" or "Shark Week." After watching the films, they were given emotional intelligence tests.

The end result revealed that the group who watch fictional dramas rated higher than their non-fiction watching peers.

Another research was conducted with the same goal, different dramas however were screened. Fictional dramas "The Good Wife" and "Lost" were screened for the first batch while the second batch were tasked to watch "Nova" and "Through the Wormhole" and the results were basically the same, still pointing out that the group who watched fictional drama scored higher that their documentary watching peers.

Watching dramathons may induce higher EQ, binge watching on the other can called to something more serious. As per Science Mic, staying at home with a DVD series and popcorn the whole weekend can be a sign of depression.

A research conducted by Yoo Hi Sung, Eun Yeon Kang , and Wei-Na Lee focused on causes and effects of binge watching; which simply means "watching multiple episodes of television program in rapid succession.

As per Lee,  who is a professor at UT Austin, "The word 'binge' has this negative connotation, except when we're talking about watching TV. That got us curious."

The end result of the researched exhibited the facts that depression and binge watching were correlated. They then stated that the more depressed or lonely the individual was, the more likely they were to indulge in long time television marathons. Binge watching has the same effect as binge eating and binge drinking.
