How the Georgetown Cupcake Sisters Lost 100 Lbs.

The famous stars of the reality-TV show DC Cupcakes, Katherine Berman and Sophie LaMontagne are not only sisters, they are also co-owners of the popular cupcake chain Georgetown Cupcake .

The pair has a list of things they share in common and the latest of which is, their impressive weight loss!

Amidst the daily temptation of the deliciously crafted sweets and treats which their business is famous for, the two sisters dropped more than 100 pounds together.

Katherine Berman got pregnant two years ago, and that when she put on the excess 60 pounds. So did her sister, Sophie. Putting on the pregnancy-sympathy weight.

According to Sophie, "I was basically eating as much as Katherine, even though I was not eating for two," she said. "You just naturally eat as much as they do. You're in the same surroundings and same situations and, before I knew it, I had gained 40 pounds."

In March 2013, the moment Katherine gave birth to her daughter, the sisters decided to work on their weight-loss plan. Not wanting to diet, since as bakers, they do recognize the impossibility of that. They instead concentrated in devising simple exercises they can do anytime, anywhere.

"So we just started walking, and that's all we did," Katherine remarked. "We walked six miles a day, five days a week and we did it consistently."

The sisters lost a combined 100-plus pounds in nine months, while focusing on more sensible portions, and allowing themselves to indulge one cupcake per day

By focusing on both diet and exercise, the New York-based nutritionist Maya Feller says the DC Cupcakes sisters took the right path.

Feller told ABC News, "It's really important to think about how one can balance their diet, and how that fits into their overall lifestyle," she said. "Exercise alone is not the only answer. Diet alone is not the only answer."

"There needs to be a real balance and marriage of the two," she said.

"Having a friend or a sister or somebody that can work out with you is so key because you motivate each other," Berman told ABC News Radio.
