Kraft Cheese Recall: Products Reportedly Spoil and Change Color Before Expiration Date

Kraft Foods Group Inc. is voluntarily recalling some of its Kraft and Polly-O string cheese after some reports of spoiling and change in color before the marked expiration date on the packages, according to the Associated Press.

The Northfield, Ill., company said Friday that Some 735,000 cases of string cheese were sent to stores throughout the United States with expiration dates marked on them from Oct. 25 through Feb. 11. The products are from Kraft, as well as, Polly-O String Cheese and String Cheese Twists lines of products.

Kraft said it issued the recall after receiving several reports from consumers about cheese going bad. The company has reportedly stopped production and shipment of the products and is investigating as to why the cheese products are spoiling prior to their expected expiration dates. The affected products were made in a plant in Campbell, N.Y.

The AP reported the company has asked people who have bad cheese products not to eat them and persons should either get an exchange or a refund.

"We're sorry that some of our Kraft and Polly-O String Cheese products did not meet our high standards," the company wrote. "And we deeply regret if you have experienced any inconvenience due to our voluntary recall on October 25, 2013"

A year ago, Kraft had a string cheese issue, also. The firm had to recall the Jalapeno variety of string cheese as a precaution because a thin layer of plastic film from the package stuck to the cheese, causing a potential choke hazard.

Kraft has also been criticized for adding yellow dyes 5 and 6 to its macaroni and cheese products. It's been asserted that the dyes add no taste value and could be potentially dangerous to people who consume them.

Kraft Foods Group, Inc. (KRFT) is one of North America's largest consumer packaged food and beverage companies, with annual revenues of more than $18 billion.
