Back To The Future 30 Years Later The Legacy Reflects To Lea Thompson

On Wednesday, the fans of the iconic film Back to the Future, celebrated it's 30th year.  Lea Thompson who played Lorraine, in the sci fi classic reveals that she still has the 50's style pastel pink prom dress she wore as part of the first film's Enchantment Under the Sea Dance.

When the first movie was filmed, Thompson who was only 24-years-old then confesses that the fit of beautiful dress she wore during the dance scene was affected by its extremely form-fitting design that she decided to do away with it while they were shooting.

"When we shot the big dance - the Enchantment Under the Sea Dance - it was so tight, I just took it off," she explained. "I would wander around in my crinolines and my push-up bra. My mom was just scandalized, because of course there were like hundreds of extras, but I didn't care. I was just walking around without my dress on."

However, because she actually loved the design they actually allowed her to keep one of it. It was a good thing because she lent it back to them years later when they did the sequels.

During an interview with HuffPost Live, the actress shared her thoughts on why the movie had such a cultural impact, “I think that there’s a lot of reasons. One, it’s a great script. It’s still studied by screenplay experts.''

Another reason the 54-year-old cited is, "I think, is because it’s something that you wanna share with your kids because the central theme in my opinion is that one moment can change your life, one moment of courage could change everything about not only your life, but your children’s lives. I think that’s a really important thing to share with your family and your kids.”

Thompson, who played Michael J. Fox's mother in the film, spoke to US Weekly about the movie and her favorite memory of filming.

"My favorite memory of 'Back to the Future' actually is seeing it! I was engaged to Dennis Quaid at the time and the movie had been out for like two months and we went to the Cinerama Dome," she said. "They gave me a free parking spot and it was completely full and we stood in the back and watched the whole movie. People were just ecstatic!"

Thompson admitted that she spent a lot of time working on the film Back to the Future, but she never hope about what 2015 would be like back then.

“I know that [the filmmakers] were thinking about the comedy of 2015, that’s why they made the costumes the way they did and the flying cars. I knew there wouldn’t be flying cars. I’m sure they could make them. They pretty much have the technology,” she laughed.

“Another thing I was sure of was that we would still be wearing cotton. I don’t know why they always make these gross, polyester clothes. And I see all these poor people wearing those rubber coats that Marty McFly wore and they’re always sweating. Not a good thing. Stick with the cotton.”

Lea Thompson is currently directing and is co-starring with her daughters Madelyn and Zoey in the upcoming film The Year of Spectacular Men.
