Zendaya Photoshop: Magazine's Editor-In-Chief Wrote An Apology Letter, Will Debut Unretouched Photo In Next Issue

Modeliste magazine has apologized after being called out by Zendaya for photoshopping her body so that her waist, legs and hips appeared dramatically skinnier.

After seeing an edited picture of herself posing in a cropped leather trench coat and black bikini briefs, the 19-year-old actress took to Instagram to post a side-by-side image of the retouched and unedited versions of the photo from the shoot to make a statement about the impossible beauty standards inflicted on women.

In an Instagram post, Zendaya said that she was "shocked" to discover her hips and torso had been slimmed in photos taken for the November issue of Modeliste magazine.

In response, the magazine took a swift and unusual step. In a letter posted online Thursday, Editor-in-Chief Amy McCabe said she was pulling the magazine to "have the images restored to their original, natural state."

"Upon review of the final edited images which had been submitted to us by an independent editing company, together, as a collaboration between myself, Zendaya and her parents, we concluded that the images had been retouched to an extent that was not acceptable and not true to the values and ideals we represent and promote in our publication," McCabe wrote.

"I, therefore, made the executive decision to immediately pull the issue in order to have this rectified and have the images restored to their original, natural state which will reflect the true beauty and radiance of Zendaya,” she added.

Amy went on to say that Modeliste 'advocates positive body image, self love and the empowerment of women' and recalled speaking with Zendaya on the phone about the retouching and learning that she also noticed that her fine baby hairs were Photoshopped from her forehead.

Zendaya later returned to her original Instagram post to write: "Thank you @modelistemagazine for pulling down the images and fixing this retouch issue."

Modeliste's website promises an "unedited edit" coming soon.
