The Human Behind 'Humans of New York' Shares His Second Book

Huffington Post gets to know the incredible human behind the Humans of New York blog and reveals what motivated the blogger-photographer Brandon Stanton go on board on his long-running and well-known project.

The famous 30-year old blogger Stanton has been the eyes and ears behind those beautiful, expressive and profound photos and anecdotes of New York people scattered and shared in almost all prominent social networking sites. As related by Stanton, it all started in the summer of 2010 when he thought of photographing and documenting the lives of the humans of New York. At first, he just wanted to take photos of 10,000 New Yorkers and plot their photos on a map. However, after working for several months, Stanton got inspired to collect quotes and short stories from the people he met and included these alongside the pictures. These portraits and captions caught the hearts of people around the world, garnering eight million followers on social media. Not much later, the book has also become a #1 New York Times bestselling book.

Earlier this week, Stanton just released his second book, "Humans of New York: Stories". He shares to Caroline Modarressy-Tehrani of Huffington Post that newly released book differs from the first once since it has more and lengthier stories and interviews. He usually spent seconds to a few minutes with people for the first book; on the other hand, he interviewed people for 45 minutes to one hour for the second book. "I approach everyone with curiosity," he sincerely shares to Modarressy-Tehrani. This genuine fascination for every person he meets is probably the reason why Stanton spends hours every day talking with people and documenting their lives even during the cold winter.

For the past five years, Stanton has interviewed more than 10,000 people in New York. The goal, he discloses, is to take photos of people and present it "in the most compelling way".
