Vinaya Gets Fresh Capital to Make Wearable Tech More Sensitive to Human Psychology

A UK tech startup known as Vinaya is tapping the power of psychology to create wearable technology that is sensitive to human habits. This hopes to result in the more controlled use of tech since the wearable will work more closely with the natural inclinations of the human mind.

And the company is not alone. Investors have pooled in a total of $3 million to propel the research and create better tech, Mymeedia reported.

Applying psychology research to tech can make tech users feel less stressed with their devices. Wearable tech that sends out different pings and vibrations depending on the notification is by no means new but there are many improvements that can be done.

A research lab is being set up and its aim to get insights on how the human mind works. The investment already put in will be used for this lab. "We realized there was a bit of a disconnect between the way technology was built in the startup culture and the way that wearables are built," co-founder and CEO Kate Unsworth said.

A future product is codenamed Zephyr but the product line will be called Altrius. It was actually soft-launched last Christmas and the company is also accepting pre-orders right now in time for the holidays. Altrius is supposedly designed for "hyper connected" individuals and will reduce time needed to dig around for users' smartphones in their bags.

The first Altrius line is designed for women and is made of high-end materials like sterling silver, gold plating, and so on, Tech Crunch reported. See it here. The tech is embedded into the stones and will notify users on notifications. As of now, there is a connected ring, bracelet, and necklace available at £220, £250, and £275 respectively. The jewelry gets linked up to the smartphone via Bluetooth.

The jewelry allows users to filter out notifications and set up parameters. One novel feature is what Unsworth called "secret words." This allows users to select specific people who can use keywords to override the do-not-disturb setting. This is very effective for co-workers and other important people.
