Terminally-ill cancer patient Daniel Fleetwood is hoping that Disney and Lucas film can grant him his dying wish of seeing the latest Star Wars film early.
As reported by Click2Houston, the 32 year old Texan and lifelong Star Wars fan was diagnosed in July with spindle cell saracoma, a rare form of connective tissue cancer. His doctors notified him that he had only two months left to live.
The prognosis leaves him several weeks short of Star Wars: The Force Awakens' December 18 release date. "I really don't think that I'll be able to make it." Said Daniel in an interview.
Fleetwood's wife Ashley created a GoFundMe page to help raise funds for Daniel's medical bills. On September 20, she issued this update on her husband's condition:
Daniel was given 1-2 months left to live on September 1st, the cancer had become aggressive and growing rapidly. He is now on hospice at home and we are cherishing every moment we have. We appreciate the support, emotionally, financially and spiritually.
The story has become a viral sensation in recent days - with several of the franchise's stars catching wind of the Fleetwood family's situation and subsequently voicing their support. John Boyega, Daisy Ridley, and Mark Hammill have all retweeted the '#ForceForDaniel' hashtag that has become the campaign's rallying call.
This kind of request is nothing new for Star Wars director JJ Abrams. Back in 2013 a similar case arose when terminally ill cancer patient by the name of Daniel Craft successfully lobbied the filmmaker into letting him see Star Trek: Into Darkness almost five months before it hit theatres.
Hopefully the same thing happens for Daniel Fleetwood. Regardless, his wife says that the outpouring of support, people from around the world have shown them is more than enough. 'Even if we don't get to see the movie, for me, personally, just everyone caring so much, it matters so much," she said to CNBC.
