Is Disney Retiring Princess Leia Slave Outfit For Good? [RUMORS] [DETAILS]

Multiple sources say that Disney is about to retire Princess Leia's "Slave Outfit" from its merchandise for good. While it is just on the rumor mill, it comes as a shocking news since the outfit is one of "Star Wars'" and sci-fi's most iconic looks, reported Comic Book Resources.

According to Gizmodo, the metal bikini outfit that Princess Leia wore in "Return of the Jedi" is being retired due to a controversy.

Rumor-site Making Star Wars started the ball rolling, after it claimed that Disney wants to phase out the "Slave" Leia look from all marketing and toys in the future. This is reportedly because Disney and even Hasbro came under fire for not having much female "Star Wars" toys, but also due to the fact that the "Star Wars" Black Series line was sold for years with only one female figure.

Making Star Wars may be a rumor site, but it has made a name for itself after having been a prominent source of spoilers and speculation about "The Force Awakens."

Because it was the Princess Leia's "Slave Outfit" that Disney allegedly decided to retired, many fans went on a rampage. While the only source of the rumor was Making Star Wars, it is worth noting that Marvel comics artist J Scott Campbell made a Facebook comment on Blake Northcott's Facebook page claiming that there had been a mandate from the company to avoid the "Return of the Jedi" Princess Leia costume, and that artists have been told to avoid sexualized poses and depictions of Leia.

With Campbell's comment, the rumor of Disney retiring the Princess Leia Slave outfit has some sort of proof there. However, it still isn't solid evidence.

While shocking, the move is positive for Disney. In addition, it might be nice to see another Princess Leia merchandise that isn't wearing the "Slave" outfit. While there aren't much choices,  Disney is reportedly working on that already.

For now, it might be best to take a grain of salt with this rumor and consider it for what it is - mere speculation.
