New Study: Top 7 Foods Healthy-Weight People Eat For Breakfast

"Do not skip breakfast" is one of the classiest, no-fail rules of living healthy and losing weight. Breakfast is the most important meal of the day-not only because a good one makes us get up off our beds but also because it provides (and it should) the perfect nutrients and energy we need throughout the day. Aside from other important things we need to do before breakfast, we need to make sure we have the heartiest and healthiest food stored in our fridge.

A Cornell Food and Brand Lab research team recently established an online Slim by Design registry to look into the characteristics and behaviours of people who are at a healthy weight and do not struggle with weight problems.

147 people (118 female) participated in the registry by answering questions about their breakfast habits and routines. One of the most essential questions was: "On an average day, what would you have for breakfast?"

Contrary to common belief, lead author Anna-Leena Vuorinen explains that a very high rate of slim people who participated in the study actually eat breakfast instead of skipping it. Moreover, they not only ate breakfast, but they ate healthy foods like fruits and vegetables. Only 4% of participants indicated that didn't eat breakfast. The study also took note that egg consumption was higher than what they expected.

"If the Food and Brand Lab has a refrain of its own it's: DO WHAT SLIM PEOPLE DO," Vuorinen exclaims.

So, are you ready to follow the slim people's footsteps? Here's a list of the most common (but healthy) breakfast items they usually consumed:

1.       Fruits (with 51% of slim people said that they ate fruits for breakfast)

2.       Dairy (41%)

3.       Cold cereal/ granola (33%)

4.       Bread (32%)

5.       Eggs (31%)

6.       Hot cereal (29%)

7.       Coffee (26%)
