KFC Buffet Restaurant In Japan: Customers Are Given 90 Minutes To Finish Their Meals

KFC, or Kentucky Friend Chicken, is planning to open an all-you-can-eat buffet style restaurant in Osaka City, Japan.

Australian Food News reported that customers can pay to access the buffet for a 90-minute session. Buffet patrons shall be able to help themselves to approximately 60 different foods once handling over approximately AUD$20.

Foods included in the menu will include biscuits, macaroni and cheese, salad, soup, coleslaw and, of course, chicken. Moreover, desserts will also be available with a variety of cakes, fruit and other sweets on the menu.

Also, the restaurant will décor and feature a display of Colonel Sander's famous suit since the late chicken mogul's iconic duds are now in Japan. Standard adult pricing is approximately AUD$20, however prices will be lower at off-peak periods and for children.

Daily Mail, however, emphasized that there is a small catch: You have to eat everything in just 90 minutes. "Buffet prices range from 1,880 to 2,480 yen - US$16-$21 - for adults.," the publication shared. "It's cheaper for children aged from four to 12, while those under four eat for free."

Meanwhile, Rocket News 24 shared that the location has a special significance for the fast food chain. The U.S. pavilion at the World Expo hosted the first KFC trial restaurant in Japan in 1970.

"Actually, KFC and Osaka go way back. Not only is the local baseball team, the Hanshin Tigers, said to be cursed following some of its rowdy fans tossing a statue of Colonel Sanders into a river 30 years ago (which was also the last time the Tigers won the Japan Series), in 1970 Osaka hosted the Japan World Exposition," the news outlet informed. Inside the event's United States pavilion was a Kentucky Fried Chicken trial restaurant, the very first to operate in Japan."

KFC is also promising an atmosphere of Southern hospitality. A woody interior and Colonel Sander's actual suit will be displayed in addition to piles of fried chicken.
