Critics Say Aziz Ansari's 'Master of None' is one of 2015's Best New Shows

Comedian and former Parks and Recreation star Aziz Ansari is back on TV with Master of None, a new comedy that hits Netflix today. The show, which Ansari created together with Parks and Rec alum Alan Yang - centers on the life of Dev (Ansari), a 30-year old actor trying to make it in New York City.

The show is being hailed as one of the year's best, with numerous outlets awarding it glowing reviews.

HitFix's Alan Sepinwall gave the first season an A rating writing that the show isn't just one of Netflix's better efforts but one of the best shows on TV period.

The New York Times' review echoed Sepinwall's.

'''Master of None,' the year's best comedy straight out of the gate, is a lot of things. It's an adorable but mature rom-com. It's an idea-packed bulletin on technology and social mores." Writes reviewer James Poniewozik.

His review singled out episode 4, entitled 'Indians on TV', as the year's best calling it an 'encyclopedic, hilarious look at Hollywood's history of stereotypes, forced accents and brownface.'

The praise isn't all directed toward Ansari. The Wrap's write up of season 1 shines some light on actress Noel Wells, who plays Dev's girlfriend Rachel.

"The real breakout star, however, is Noël Wells. She barely registers in the first episode, but by the end of the series she will have broken your heart." Writes Mark Peikert. "Ansari's skepticism regarding modern dating gives the series its tartness, but, as with almost any secretly romantic cynic, all that goes out the window after one amazing date-and he and Wells provide, over the course of an episode, one of the most memorable dates ever filmed."

Aside from Ansari and Wells, Master of None stars H. Jon Benjamin, Kelvin Yu, and Eric Wareheim. The entire first season can be streamed now.
