Detroit Chef Creates 10-Course Tasting Menu Inspired by Radiohead's 'Kid A' Album

Have you ever wanted to taste Radiohead?

The Huffington Post reported that a Detroit chef is taking artistic inspiration from a Radiohead album and translating it into his own medium.

Chef Kyle Hanley has created a 10-course tasting menu for one night only, where each course designed is paired with a track from Radiohead's 2000 album, "Kid A". The album will play uninterrupted throughout the meals.

Hanley, a former music student and chef de cuisine at the Detroit Golf Club, said that he chose Radiohead for the textural nature of their music.

"Especially Radiohead, they are very textural," he told the Huffington Post. "They are a very visceral band."

The event, which will be held on Wednesday, has been dubbed "A Night With Kid A". The course begins with a "pan-seared diver scallop with yuzu fluid gel, fried cellophane noodle, lemongrass ponzu and chili oil" partnered with opening track "Everything In Its Right Place".

The $125 meal also includes lamb chops with crispy pig ear and blood orange reduction, maple sugar seared duck breast, and lemon sorbet. The beverage choices, which include both wine and cocktails, were made by Joseph Allerton, who reportedly based his selections solely on the music and not the food.

The meal includes "drink pairings such as cilantro-infused gin with jalapeno syrup, fresh lime, sea salt and chili oil" while the track "Treefingers" is playing.

Hanley's hope is that even people who are unfamiliar with the band and their work will enjoy the meal.

"Most people put out CDs, and this is an actual album. One song flows into the next, and we kind of want to do the same thing with the courses," he said. "If you like the album, if you like the music, you'll get it."

Thirty-six people will be admitted over three seatings. It will be served at the Elizabeth Theater At The Park Bar.

Hanley and business partner Bill Keros are open to the idea of repeating the experiment with a different album each month.
