Ed Sheeran Deterred From Drugs By Elton John

He's definitely a one lucky friend. Ed Sheeran, who admits his personal low points of being a cocaine addict, was put off from his bad habits after opening up his experiences on drug addiction to his friend and mentor Sir Elton John, according to reports.

The 24-year old "Thinking Out Loud" hit-maker didn't deny talking to Elton and admits his friend has deterred him from taking the illegal substances.

"His stories about drugs put you off." Sheeran explained. "You hear Elton talk about his darkest days and he tells you so you don't have those little moments. He has definitely lived it."

The ginger-haired singer, who had previously admitted that he was a user of ecstasy, also said that he prefers being outspoken and honest about his vices, rather than trying to act like a role model and then be caught out doing the other way around.

"It may be the wrong way to look at it, but it's far more important to be honest." Sheeran said. "I can either pretend to be something I'm not, or I can be myself. If you're in the position of being a role model and go, 'No, I don't smoke', and then get caught smoking, it's far worse."

Besides Sheeran, Elton was also the one who advised rapper Eminem. In fact, the 43-year old 'Lose Yourself' hit-maker has once credited the Rocket Man singer for helping him get clean.

Elton also helped out the Ironman actor, Robert Downey Jr during his recovery from heroin addiction. Lady Gaga on the other hand, also said that Elton "saved" her, explaining "He got me on the straight and narrow."

Elton John first engaged himself to using cocaine back in the year 1974. He decided to enter rehab in Chicago in 1990 and clean his messed up life, adding that he once said he "wasted a big part" of his life.
