New York City Beer Week 2014: Sixth Annual Celebration Opens Today!

If you're a beer drinker in New York, it's the week you've been waiting for. New York City's Beer Week opens today, and runs until March 2. There will be many events, food and beer pairings, and galas available to those who are seeking out craft beer. There will be numerous tap-takeovers, in which a brewery takes over all of the taps of a bar with just their product, and many special food and beer events.

The opening gala will begin tonight at 7 pm in Grand Central Terminal, and costs 75 dollars for entry. Over thirty rare beers will be up to sample, and foods from Whole Foods and Murray's Cheese will be paired up with the brews. This gala will host many a brewer from New York's craft beer industry, including such favorites as Sixpoint and Brooklyn Brewing.  There will be unlimited drinks and food for the price of admission, and a chance to sample some incredible, rare brews.

According to the Brewer's Guild, which organizes this yearly event, there will be over 150 bars and restaurants participating, and over 100 different events throughout the week. Sixteen local New York City craft breweries will be participating, as well as a few national and international craft breweries.

The Brewer's Guild hopes this event and events like it will draw attention to the local breweries, and inspire consumers to go out and buy locally made beer and food.  With the long list of deals at restaurants, bars, and the breweries themselves, Beer Week has made an impact each year since it's conception.

The event will close with a beer brunch on March 2nd, at Houston Hall.  For more details on Beer Week, follow @nycbeerweek on Twitter.
