Cobra Starship is calling it quits. Say it isn't so - but the band is disbanding.
After performing together for almost a decade, the Fueled By Ramen-signed dance-rock band announced the news on Tuesday.
Singer Gabe Saporta wrote a lengthy goodbye note for Cobra Starship fans on their website and Facebook page, which also included some thank you's to their fans. The first paragraph reads:
"After many incredible years, I'm making the difficult decision to close the book on Cobra Starship. If you stop reading this now, I want to say thank you if you've ever supported Cobras in any way. Whether you came to our shows and bought merch, or simply listened to a track and shared it with a friend, you allowed us to live out the most incredible adventure, and I am eternally grateful for that."
According to Rolling Stone, the Cobra Starship breakup has apparently been "in motion since summer 2014." At the time, bassist Alex Suarez and guitarist Ryland Blackinton announced their intentions to leave the band.
Even though Cobra Starship released a single in August 2014 - "Never Been in Love" featuring Icona Pop - the band hasn't released a single LP since their 2011 "Night Shades" album.
As the long letter neared its end, Gabe Saporta wrote:
"I feel like I've lived a hundred lifetimes and that I've learned thins I could have never been taught elsewhere. I was able to connect with people all over the world and from all walks of life, and I will take these lessons, experiences, and connections with me wherever I go. But now the time has come to move on.
"That of course begs the question: Well, where are you going bro?"
Gabe Saporta will be focusing his love for music on the business side of the industry. He explained:
"The truth is that there is nothing that I am more passionate about than music. And although the time has come for me to pass the baton, nothing would be as rewarding for me as the opportunity to share my wisdom and experiences with the next generation of artists.
As it turns out, Gabe Saporta has teamed up with Mike Carden to start a management company - called the Artist Group - slated for a 2016 launch.
