Jennifer Lawrence “Joy”: Could New Oscar-Bet Movie Win Her Another Academy Award? [RELEASE DATE, CAST, SPOILERS & MORE]

Jennifer Lawrence's latest movie, "Joy," is about to show in theaters, and just in time after the last "Hunger Games" film ends production. "Joy," which Director David O. Russell says shows Lawrence's "heart and soul," is reportedly another Oscar bet.

"Joy" is Lawrence and Russell's third film together. Their previous collaborations include 2012's "Silver Linings Playbook" ad 2013's "American Hustle," both of which garnered awards for Lawrence. For her role in "Silver Linings," Lawrence won an Academy Award for Best Actress, while in "American Hustle," she became a nominee for Best Supporting Actress.

Because of the duo's movie awards history, "Joy" has been surrounded by Oscar buzz.

"Joy" is the story of Miracle Mop inventor, Joy Mangano. However, in the recently-released "Joy" trailer, Mangano nor her invention wasn't evident since the focus has primarily been on Lawrence and the character she has created - a smart, driven, complex and above all, steely businesswoman.

In David O. Russell tradition, other familiar faces associated with the director is seen in "Joy." Robert De Niro will play Rudy, Joy's father, while Bradley Copper plays a Home Shopping Network executive. The film also features Academy Award-nominated actress Virginia Madsen, who will play Joy's mother, Carrie.

According to The Inquisitr, it is for these reasons that "Joy" started gathering Oscar buzz. The trailer and the team Russell has put in certainly makes for an interesting film.

Front and running in the awards department is Jenifer Lawrence once again, who is pegged to win an Academy Award for Best Actress nomination, according to Gold Derby. Other nominees reportedly include Brie Larson for the film "Room" and Cate Blanchett for the film "Carol."

Before "Silver Linings Playbook," Lawrence had already been nominated for an Academy Award for Best Actress in the 2010 film "Winter's Bone." She was 20 at the time, reportedly making her the second youngest actress to be nominated in Hollywood.

According to Cinema Blend, while "Joy" sounds appealing now with all the Oscar buzz surrounding it, it hadn't been like that when Fox 2000 hired "Bridesmaids" screenwriter, Annie Mumolo, to write the script for "Joy" in 2012.

Since Russell also worked on the script, there had been a dispute in the creative department.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Mumolo wrote the script for "Joy" for over a year and even became close with Mangano herself. However, studio executives didn't find enough character development in her script. When Russell was assigned to direct the film, he was allowed free reign over the script, which he reportedly did quite a bit.

According to the report, Russell chose to drop a few biographical elements to make a fictionalized plot, and create a "Joy" that is "an amalgamation of multiple female entrepreneurs." Fox 2000 liked it, and they gave him story credit. However, Mumolo fought back and was eventually given shared story credit.

Mumolo's name will be listed first in the story credit, while Russell will be in screenplay. Since "Joy" is already garnering a lot of buzz in the Academy Awards, Cinema Blend thinks that things might get a little complicated.

"Joy" is set for release Christmas Day.
