'Sherlock' Season 4 Air Date, Premiere & Trailer: Producer Mark Gatiss Reveals ‘The Abominable Bride’ Tackles ‘Role Of Women’; Plus, Things We Know So Far [VIDEO]

Series producer and actor Mark Gatiss spilled the beans on what fans should expect in "Sherlock" holiday special titled "The Abominable Bride."

MTV News shared that Mark revealed to them that the special episode will bring about more changes for the women of "Sherlock" than its two leading men. "[Holmes and Watson] were modern men then, you see... it wasn't a [challenge] really with Holmes and Watson for this one, because they were very much modern men then," Mark explained.

"The way that women were controlled in the 19th century was the total absence of public lavatories for women. There is a story about the first public lavatory for women - it's still there, it's made of stone, but the first one was made of wood," he added on.

"The first one was destroyed by an irate cab driver who drove his cab into it because he thought it was disgusting. But basically, if you were a woman in that age and you couldn't really go around without paying a visit, you couldn't go very far from home. Isn't that an extraordinary thought? It's like mind control, it is," Mark stated.

Generally, the women of the special who include Martin Freeman's real-life partner Amanda Abbington as Mary, Una Stubbs as Mrs. Hudson and presumably the titular bride, and Louise Brealey as Molly Hooper will have a whole lot to this forthcoming holiday season. Mark divulged that the episode will make viewers of all genders very happy.

Mark emphasized that it still "Sherlock" even if it's set in a different time. Additionally, he said fans should expect the same quality and storyline despite the new setting. He revealed that the show will adapt the Victorian-era style when asked about the signature text messaging technique of "Sherlock."

GamesRadar, meanwhile, unveiled some teaser video from the full trailer of "The Abominable Bride" episode. The clip showed Holmes and Watson's first encounter. It appeared that the two main characters in "Sherlock" will not be able to know each other at the start of the Victorian special.

The "Sherlock" Christmas special entitled "The Abominable Bride" can be watched on Jan. 1, 2016 in the U.K. and U.S. via BBC and theatres.
