Roanoke Food Prep Services Takes No Excuse on Eating Healthy Food

With the goal to provide healthy food for his community, Jim Thomas, who suffered from unhealthy diet, created the Food Prep Services.

Thomas majored in in biology at Virginia Tech and worked for Complete Nutrition, a health supplements retailer. This decision came after he decided to visit the gym as a way of distracting himself from his broke up with his girlfriend.

Like many others around the globe, many of us wait for heartbreaking and food-binging situations before we finally decide that it's time to lost those extra pounds and get fit and healthy.

The 31-year-old came up with the idea to stop people from making excuses. Thomas revealed that the two most common reasons he heard are that "healthy food was too expensive" and that individuals "didn't have time to cook it."

Thomas launched Food Prep Services with his long-time friend and former co-worker Brandon Pruett a few weeks ago. "Everybody wants to eat healthy," Thomas said. "We had to provide a means to do it."

The Food Prep Services prepare meals that comes with a meat, a vegetable and a carbohydrate, fully cooked and ready to reheat. One typical meal offers chicken, broccoli and rice. The meals are not as creative as one wishes it would; however, it "regular meal weighs in at around 500 calories and is designed to be healthy and inexpensive." The average meal costs just around $4 to $6 or $19.95 for their five-meal lunch special. Delivery is free.

As of present time, the partners are making and delivering up to 1,000 meals per week, with Sundays, Monday, and Tuesdays as the busiest days of their week. The good thing is that they don't have to invest much when it comes to advertising their product and service as "the best advertising has been social media and word-of-mouth."

Food Prep Services uses the kitchen at The Park, a nightclub on Salem Avenue, on a contract.
