Former 'Game Of Thrones' Actor Jason Momoa To Star In New Netflix Drama 'Frontier'

Jason Momoa may have left one classic Western film for one that will be available for streaming on Netflix!

Earlier this year, the 'Game of Thrones' alum had reportedly dropped out of the upcoming remake of the classic Western movie 'The Magnificent Seven.' Jason Momoa had been offered a role as a minor thug in the film, which may have been one of the reasons why the 'Stargate: Atlantis' star decided to pass on the project.

However, it looks like Jason Momoa has his eye on a different Western. According to EW, Netflix has announced that the streaming company will be working on 'Frontier,' a drama series that will star Momoa and will be helmed by 'San Andreas' director Brad Peyton.

But what is 'Frontier' about? According to the official Netflix description, the series is "an action-packed adventure drama following the chaotic and violent struggle to control wealth and power in the North American fur trade in the late 18th century. Told from multiple perspectives, the series takes place in a world where business negotiations might be resolved with close-quarter hatchet fights, and where delicate relations between Native tribes and Europeans can spark bloody conflicts."

'Frontier' sounds like a TV series that could use the charms and brawns of Jason Momoa, who has worked his magic on fantasy shows for several years. An adventure drama would benefit well from Momoa's stage presence, which will soon be seen in the DC flick 'Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice,' where he will portray Aquaman.

In addition to Jason Momoa, 'Frontier' will also star Alun Armstrong from 'Braveheart,' 'Hemlock Grove' actor Landon Liboiron as well as Zoe Bolton from 'Downton Abbey.'

'Frontier' is being co-created by Rob and Peter Blackie and the show's six-episode season will be shot in Canada. The series is expected to air on Netflix and Discovery Canada by 2016.
