Bill Hader Leads Adaptation of David Foster Wallace Story

Jesse Andrews, author of Me and Earl and the Dying Girl, is preparing to make his directing debut on Empress of Serenity. And who better to lead his new project than Saturday Night Live veteran and Trainwreck star Bill Hader.

Andrews penned the script which is loosely inspired by David Foster Wallace's novel. It's a story focused on the life of an animal rights lawyer who suddenly took a different turn when he found out his mother died. He eventually finds an unexpected bond with his estranged father when he goes on a cruise for 45 days. Ultimately dealing with his inner demons and intimacy issues. The movie will be set on the cruise itself and will revolve around the relationship between father and son trying to strengthen their relationship. Why title the movie Empress of Serenity? Wild guess, it could just be the name of the cruise ship.

Supported by Good Universe, Empress of Serenity is an original screenplay by Andrews. It's not an entire adaptation of Wallace's work but merely an inspiration for the idea. Expect a great storyline as Andrews did an impressive work with Me and Earl and the Dying Girl where he was able to balance comedy and pathos.

Who better to play the role of an animal rights lawyer going through a life changing crisis while still being comedic about it? Bill Hader can fill that role after his fantastic job as Amy Schumer's love interest, Aaron, in Train Wreck. You can also hear Hader's voice in the upcoming animated movie The Angry Birds Movie. He also voiced Fear in Inside Out (remember the blue guy in the animated Pixar movie that makes sure that all corners are baby-proofed?). The Angry Birds Movie will hit theaters in May 2016.

Jesse Andrews is repped by WME and MXN, and Hader is repped by UTA, as posted by The Wrap.
