Film and TV screenwriter and producer Noah Hawley is reportedly working on turning another well-known work into TV: 'Cat's Cradle' by Kurt Vonnegut.
The Verge reported that Noah is developing a limited series for FX based on the novel, which he will also write and executive produce, after having a remarkable success with his television adaptation of 'Fargo.' If this project will push through, it will mark the third project that he is cooking for the network.
Aside from Noah, FX Production will be producing the project with IM Global as its executive producer. The Hollywood Reporter shared that the novel which tackled issues on science, technology and religion, was a component of the inaugural development slate of IM Global Television when it was announced in April.
Additionally, Noah is on board to write and produce the cable network's comic book pilot entitled 'Legion' in addition to Fargo which is currently in the middle of its second season. FX Productions signed him and his 26 Keys banner to a two-year overall deal in 2014. Also, Brad Yonover and Elkins Entertainment's Sandi Love will co-executive produce the said project.
"Originally published in 1963, Vonnegut's novel is a satirical send-up of religion, technology, and nuclear fears, following a narrator who meets up with the children of a (fictional) scientist that helped develop the nuclear bomb," The Verge wrote of 'Cat's Cradle.' "From there he learns of a strange substance called ice-nine, which has the power to cause water to solidify, and a burgeoning new form of religion called 'Bokononism.'"
The news outlet added that the narrative perfectly works in the author's novel. However, there are some hesitations in translating it into other medium.
As a matter of fact, writer-director Richard Kelly worked on an adaptation for actor Leonardo DiCaprio which was never produced. Despite this, fans remain positive that the collaboration betweeb Noah, who excels at creating interesting and unconventional characters, and the television network would end up being a perfect match.
