Wrestling Superstar Ultimate Warrior Dead at Age 54

The Ultimate Warrior has died, according to a statement posted on the World Wrestling Entertainment website Tuesday.

According to FOX Sports, just days after being inducted into the World Wrestling Entertainment Hall of Fame, the Ultimate Warrior has died at the age of 54. Born as James Brian Hellwig, the athlete legally changed his name in 1993.

"WWE is shocked and greatly saddened to learn of the passing of one of the most iconic WWE Superstars ever, The Ultimate Warrior," a statement read. "Warrior began his WWE career in 1987 and quickly went on to become one of the biggest stars in WWE history."

TMZ reported that Warrior collapsed on the sidewalk outside of his hotel room in Arizona at 5:50 PM while walking to his car with his wife. The athlete was rushed to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead. Information about his cause of death has yet to be made available.

His death also comes just one day after making an appearance on WWE's "Monday Night Raw," his first appearance on the show since 1996. During his appearance he told the crowd, "No WWE talent becomes a legend on their own. Every man's heart one day beats its final beat. His lungs breathe their final breath."

He has been described as one of the world's most charismatic and popular professional wrestlers.

"WWE sends its sincere condolences to Warrior's family, friends and fans."

Warrior joined the then-WWF in 1987 and was re-branded as The Ultimate Warrior. He retired from the ring in but returned for a final match in 2008. The wrestler is survived by his wife, Dana, and their daughters, Indiana and Mattigan.
