Stephen Fry: To Receive Rose d’Or Lifetime Achievement Honor

Stephen Fry, the British comedian who recently stepped down from his role as host of QI, will be given the Rose d'Or Award for Lifetime Achievement.

The award honours and recognizes those who have made an outstanding contribution to broadcast entertainment throughout their careers. The Rose d'Or rewards originality, quality and creativity and sets the gold standard of excellence in entertainment programming.

Jean Philip De Tender of European Broadcasting Union said: "Stephen Fry represents all that is best about entertainment broadcasting in the UK, throughout Europe and across the globe.Not only has he entertained generations and made us laugh, he has also, through his documentary work, shone light on challenging issues such as mental health."

Stephen Fry began hosting BBC game show QI (Quite Interesting) in 2003, a comedy panel game television quiz show.

After 13 years of being in the panel of the show, Stephen Fry decided last month to step down from his role. He will be replaced by a co-founder of Women's Equality Party, the author and comedian, Sandi Toksvig.

The awarding which will take place next month will honor recipients in six categories for television and online as follows: Comedy, Sitcom, Game Show, Reality and Factual Entertainment, Arts and Entertainment . It will also award five categories covering radio namely, Comedy, Entertainment Event (Multimedia), Game Show, Music Show and Talk Show.

Journalist Paddy O'Connell will host the award this year.

Fry's career took off in the mid-'80s with his comedy show A Bit of Fry and Laurie, alongside House star Hugh Laurie. He went on to establish himself as a household name in series such as Blackadder, Jeeves and Wooster and dramatic adaptations such as Gormenghast.

In 2012, Stephen appeared as a guest panellist in the BBC Radio 4 comedy panel show Wordaholics, he also guest starred as himself in the audio comedy drama "We Are The BBC" produced by the Wireless Theatre Company.
