Carrie Fisher Talks About Playing Princess Leia in 'Star Wars' And Why She Agreed To Do 'The Force Awakens'

The new 'Star Wars' trilogy has something that Episodes I to III didn't have: the original heroes from the original trilogy. 'Episode VII,' or 'The Force Awakens,' will mark the return of Han Solo (Harrison Ford), Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill) and Princess (now a General) Leia, who is played by the lovely Carrie Fisher, who admits to Time.com that the decision to return as the iconic character was amazingly easy.

"No, I'm a female and in Hollywood it's difficult to get work after 30-maybe it's getting to be 40 now," Fisher said, adding that being the Alderaan princess is now part of her identity.

"I long ago accepted that I am Princess Leia. I have that as a large part of the association with my identity. There wasn't a lot of hesitation," she said.

Carrie Fisher also shared how different Leia is now compared to the original films.

"Oh my God, she got so much older. I tried to stop her, but apparently that includes death so that didn't seem like a good solution," she said. "Along with aging comes life experience so in every way that is consistent with even being human, Leia has changed."

In addition to that, the 'Star Wars' actress also revealed that she may have injected some of her own personal quirks to playing General Leia.

"One hopes that I at least indicate that I have wisdom," Fisher said. "Whether I'm successful with that indication or not remains to be seen. And I wear less makeup and I need it more."

The bit about the makeup was Carrie Fisher's decision, as she admits she doesn't wear a lot of makeup herself.

"I've seen pictures of myself with makeup on and I look like those women who look like they're wearing makeup so they can look young, and I don't think that's good," she said. "They have all these products now called-wait, what's it called, it's my favorite-youth suppressant, or age go away, they don't work. I didn't wear a lot of makeup to begin with and I was always-you have to be very careful with that stuff. It really annoys me that I'm vain, but unfortunately I haven't been able to discard that tendency."

'Star Wars: The Force Awakens' will premiere on December 18.
