More Than 150 Countries Pledged To Address Global Warming Issues

More than 150 countries have pledged to take part in reducing global warming issues by committing to participate in the U.N. Climate Change Conference which will be held in Paris next week. According to a new study, the recent move of the participating nations promises a solution to the worldwide environmental problems present today.

The Intended Nationally Determined Contributions which contain the pledges of the nations including the United States are intended to lessen the emissions of harmful greenhouse gases by 26 to 28 percent in the next decade.

However, the researchers have pointed out that the program will only be successful if the involved countries would act according to what they have promised to do to address global warming scenarios.

"The Paris scenarios reduce probabilities of extreme warming and increase the probability of limiting global warming to 2 degrees Celsius this century, but depend on a robust process that allows pledges to be progressively tightened over time," the researchers wrote.

Allen Fawcett, the lead author of the study revealed the purpose of their study which is to assess the potential of the said pledges. The authors of the research want to know what the movement will contribute to the environment by examining it in a risk management perspective.

"We analyzed not only what the commitments would achieve over the next 10 to 15 years, but also how they might lay a foundation for the future."

The above conclusion was derived by considering four scenarios based on the commitments of the nations. The researchers also examined two sets of data and calculated the possible things that would happen for each case.

China is one of the countries that promised to minimize the effects of climate change by reducing emissions of carbon. Jean-Claude Juncker, the European Commission President is hoping that the global movement will be translated into actions.

The aforementioned climate change summit will start this coming November 30 until December 11 in the city of lights.
