Why Mashed Potatoes May Save You From Stomach Cancer

Do you need an excuse to gobble up huge cup of mashed potatoes? Or any justification to have another large serving of fries? Then you better read up!

A new study has found out that people who frequently eat large amounts of white colored fruits and vegetables are three times less likely to acquire Stomach Cancer.

Chinese scientists from the Zhejiang University have published their research that has proven eating veggies such as potatoes, cauliflower and onion will reduce the possibility of having the specified cancer. Contradictory, beer, spirits, salty and preserved food actually increase the chances.  

Some other green, leafy vegetables such as cabbage, kale and celery were also found to be preventives against the disease. The common denominator of these vegetables is their high Vitamin C content, most especially potatoes. The vitamin acts as an effective antioxidant that neutralizes cellular stress in the stomach which can eventually cause the deadly disease.

"Eating around 50g of the vitamin every day brought the risk of developing the disease down by eight per cent," The Times reported. Food scientists have estimated that eating 100g of fruits daily will decrease the chances of getting cancer by five percent.  

Of course, consuming these fruits and veggies prepared in an unhealthy way will reduce its vitamins and natural nutirients. Deep frying may after all diminish the potatoes' cancer-fighting attributes, so it is always better to eat them the most natural way like boiled, steamed or baked. 

Stomach cancer kills around 13 people every day in Britain. To date, it is the 6th deadliest type of cancer in the country. Since the thirties, 10,500 cases have been recorded with only 15% of survival rate.

The study was backed up by 76 studies, referencing 6.3 million Stomach Cancer patients and almost 33,000 deaths because of the disease.
