Sugar Versus Corn Syrup, Four Year Sweet Court Battle Finally Over

If you took a few minutes to read the labels and tried to decide which drink is most suitable for you then you're not having a hard time compared to the four year epic court battle between the sugar and fructose industries.

Four years ago, on November 20, 2011, sugar accused corn syrup of exhibiting a range of objectable behavior. I imagine you're thinking of a cartoon sugar cube and a corn squabbling. We can use that analogy.

Sugar was primarily concerned about the rise of corn syrup alternatives. This includes sugar objecting to corn syrup's claim that it's a natural product. Sugar hated the fact that corn syrup has been trying to tell everybody that "sugar is sugar and our body can't tell the difference". That doesn't stop sugar from accusing corn syrup of causing the high rate of obesity, diabetes and cholesterol. It's a false advertisement battle fighting for the healthier option title.

Twenty major sugar businesses and corn refiners were involved in the case this month in Los Angeles. And recently, the sweet war has ended with all parties involved to sign off on private terms. The ending agreement will not be released to the public. A jury trial scheduled until December has now been halted.

What has been released for sure is that the sugar side wants $1.1 billion as compensation for damages and the corn syrupers wants $530 million for the same.

After they dropped the case and the terms of settlement kept, the NPD Group Dieting Monitor stated that the number one items consumers are watching out for are sugar in all forms, reports say.

So the top secret settlement will be sealed in a glaze that can never be broken. What they did promise was that both sugar and corn syrup will continue to practice safe and healtful use of their products.

If you're still standing along the aisle deciding which drink you're going to purchase, may we suggest water?
