Emojis Are Now Fine Art, Sold in Oil and Canvas

Emojis are here to stay. What used to be a local Japanese fad is now a global phenomena. Emojis are so big now that an emoji is now the word of the year (Face with Tears of Joy). Emojis have also invaded the art world.

So, yes, as the title suggests, emojis are now the subjects of artworks in oil and canvas, The Next Web reported. Alex Godin is the brains behind this project. He is best known as being the youngest person to ever be accepted into TechStarts at just 17 years old. Dispatch, the startup he founded, was sold to New York-based Meetup last year.

He has been engaged in more “fun things” like Camp Cannibal, a 75 person adult camp. The designs of Emoji Oil Paintings are made in New York but the actual work is done near the Apple iPhone factory in Dafen, China.

An emoji painting costs $80 while a “mystery painting” would set you back $65. A pack of three paintings is also available for $152. If you want to save even more, a pack of six paintings would cost $241. There may also be fees for shipping. Oh, and if you are looking for the famous poop emoji, that would cost $100. "The poop emoji costs $20 extra because we could,” Godin said.

CNET reported that each painting is delivered in a rolled tube but there is also an option to have them delivered framed already. All works are oil on canvas and measure 12 x 12 inches each. The paintings will be limited to only 100 pieces per emoji. Some other popular emojis that Godin offers are the sunglass-wearing emoji, heart eyes, raised hands, and 2015's word of the year, face with tears of joy.
