Mark Zuckerberg Net Worth: Facebook CEO is Giving Away 99 Percent Of His Fortune, Find Out Why

Mark Zuckerberg has an estimated net worth of $46.8 Billion as of December 1, 2015, according to Forbes. He is best known as one of five co-founders of the social networking website Facebook and the shift to mobile advertising has driven up the social network's revenues helping Mark Zuckerberg's net worth up nearly $13 billion to date in 2015.

Mark Zuckerberg's net worth is at it's highest right of this moment but the 31-year-old Facebook CEO has revealed he will be donating 99 percent of his share in honor of the arrival of his baby girl, Max, into the world.

Max was born last week, but the couple only made the news of her birth public on Tuesday, December 1.

Mark and wife Priscilla Chan have formed the Chan Zuckerberg Initiative, which he said will “join people across the world to advance human potential and promote equality for all children in the next generation.”

Its initial areas of focus will be personalised learning, curing disease, connecting people and building strong communities.

"We will give 99% of our Facebook shares — currently about $45 billion — during our lives to advance this mission," Mark also wrote in his message. "We know this is a small contribution compared to all the resources and talents of those already working on these issues. But we want to do what we can, working alongside many others.”

While Zuckerberg promised to release more details in the future, he said the couple will transfer most of their wealth to the initiative "during our lives." The couple will be in charge of the initiative, although Zuckerberg won't be quitting his day job.

The days of Mark Zuckerberg being seen as a nerdy, awkward tech dork are well behind us.

His ambition now is clearly to be a significant figure on the global political stage.
