Beef News and Stolen Meat: 40,000 Pounds of Hamburger from Milwaukee Gone!

Think of a burger party, a barbecue grill weekend or an all-meat buffet. Now, think of it disappearing. Sad isn't it? An estimated $110,000 worth of beef was stolen, recently.

A meat packing plant in Milwaukee, Wisconsin waited all day for their usual meat delivery to come in. The truck which was scheduled to deliver 20 tons of meat never made the scheduled drop off. Investigating further, it appears the trucker made the scheduled pick up at the Nicholas Meatpacking plant near Loganton, Pennsylvania. And that's the last they saw of him. Milwaukee's order for 40,000 pounds of meat will never get packed.

State Police determined that it happened on November 21. Police reports uncovered that the driver used a fake ID to pick up the delivery contract and the delivery order, and the truck itself contained fraudulent company information.

Was the driver really that hungry? Police investigations determine that the thief was not alone in his crimes.

Usual food thefts are at a smaller scale like shoplifting in American supermarkets and food aisles. Recent studies and trends indicate that meat prices have scaled higher these past few months. Due to the expensive prices labeled on red meat, tons of people are stealing from supermarkets, especially when it comes to beef.  Some thieves go as far as stealing from the direct source. Complaints have been submitted to the state because calves are being stolen from cattle ranches.

According to troopers, the theif loaded an estimated $110,000 worth of meat into a trailer and drove off.

The whereabouts of the meat is unknown. But if you happen to spot a burger party feeding more than 100,000 people, maybe ask where the meat came from, just to be safe.

Sadly, a truck carrying ground beef for about 160,000 burgers will never make it to their intended destinations. I meant our stomachs.
