Google Nexus 7: Huawei to Design Device Next Year? [Rumor]

There could be another revamped Google Nexus 7, with Chinese mobile giant Huawei set to manufacture the tablet, according to a new report, or rather, rumor.

The new report on the Google Nexus 7 comes from China-based social media site Weibo. As such, it pays to take a grain of salt with this latest news on Google's device.

According to Phone Arena, recent estimates claims that Huawei is currently in the third spot when it comes to making smartphones, taking into consideration shipment volume as well as a smartphone maker in China.

The original Nexus 7 has been considered among the most beloved tablets in history.

Manufactured by Asus, the original Nexus 7 tablet was launched by Google in July 2012 and quickly became the first tablet ever to sell at little or no profit. It became one of the best-selling Android tablets of all time since customers wanted a piece of the affordable yet high-performance tablet.

A refreshed Nexus 7 then came in 2013, offering improvements. The price remained affordable.

However, that thing is in the past, and it looks like Google has let go of affordability. Its latest Nexus device, the 6P smartphone, manufactured by Huawei, is a premium handset also sold at premium price. Meanwhile, the introductory price of the Nexus 9, manufactured by HTC, was a surprising $399.

If this latest Google Nexus 7 rumor proves true, it would be interesting to see whether Google would go back to its affordable handset model.

According to Trusted Reviews, Huawei's latest tablet creations, the MediaPad M2 and X2, both hadn't been received well in the market. However, if success of the Nexus 6P alone is to be based on, the company could get the alleged deal with the Google Nexus 7.

As for Google, the company has yet to comment on the latest Google Nexus 7 rumor from Weibo.
