JEM Raw Chocolate has recently announced a voluntary recall of the full nut butter spread line because of contamination from Salmonella. Eleven reports connected to the strain has been submitted but there are no recorded deaths and hospitalizations as of today. The company is based in Bend, Oregon.
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration and Oregon Agricultural and health departments have determined that the illnesses are linked to consumers who have ingested the nut butter spread, including JEW Raw products.
To be safe, the company issued a recall of all products, glass jars and variants packaged under the JEM Raw Organics brand name.
The products are not only limited to Oregon in terms of distribution. Products have been delivered and distributed nation-wide through retail stores and through mail.
JEM Raw is now working with their suppliers, distributors and retailers to take the products off the shelves. They advise that consumers do not need to return the product to the original source. Instead, they can dispose of the contents and container. The company has committed to work with each consumer when it comes to the replacement. More information can be found on their website.
Although no JEM Raw products have been tested positive for the Salmonella strain, CEO Jen Moore would rather issue a voluntary recall to ensure food safety.
The products contaminated were manufactured between June 2015 and November 2015. The following products are recalled:
