Robert Downey Agrees with Iron Man's Decision in Captain America: Civil War

Throughout his lengthy stint in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Robert Downey Jr.'s Iron Man has always been one of the good guys.

That will all soon change when the franchise's newest blockbuster, Captain America: Civil War, hits theatres next May.

After the city-leveling events of Avengers: Age of Ultron, the world's citizens have risen up, demanding that the Avengers and other costumed heroes of their ilk submit to government control to prevent future disasters from occurring.

This event leads to the forming of the two sides that give the film its title: the pro-control group lead by Iron Man and the opposition lead by Captain America, which believes that heroes shouldn't have limitations placed on them. In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Downey spoke of what it was like being 'the bad guy' this time around.

"It didn't bother me at all," said Downey to EW. "I've always thought of it in some ways that Tony is the antagonist to himself in his own story, so this isn't a problem. This guy understands problems 'cause he is a problem. And he tends to create problems."

"I'm not having to patter around what I think the worldview is," He continues/ I wholeheartedly agree with what he does in this. Which is, by the way, more than I could say for some of the other movies."

Of course, Iron Man isn't the only opposition Steve Rogers will be facing. Baron Zemo, a longtime nemesis of Cap's, is also a part of this story; but at this point, his motivations and master plan are still a mystery.

In another EW piece, Marvel Boss Kevin Feige said that this Zemo would be a very different take from the comics.

I will say that his character is very much a product of the Cinematic Universe and all that has occurred within that universe up to this point."

How will all these clashing sides come together? We'll have to wait until May 6, 2015 to find out.
