This is Why You Get Those Weird Advertisements on Facebook and How To Get Rid of Them!

Any Facebook user probably would notice and stumble upon those weird advertisements when scrolling through their feed and are left perplexed.

Although they're called suggested posts, they're actually part of targeted advertising, a feature commonly used by people who advertise their businesses and services on Facebook.

As it turns out, Facebook is closely watching your searches, and even your interests to see if your profile fits the targeted audience of a business who advertises on the social media platform. According to Unilad:

"Basically, the social media site has a complete list of things you're interested in - based on Google searches, Facebook pages you follow and the like - and it means advertises can target ads towards people with specific interests."

It's pretty unavoidable for a user to stop Facebook from snooping on their personal data, but there is a way for you to check out the list and edit it accordingly so that you won't get any weird or off-putting advertisements any longer.

All you need to do is hit "Settings" on the top-right corner of your page. Click on "Ads" and then click on "Edit" on the section that reads 'Ads based on my preferences." Or you can always click here to go straight to where that is.

Once you're there, you'll see a list of different categories: "Business and Industry," "Education," "Family and Relationships," "Fitness and Wellness," and so on.

Beside each category is the number of topics or interests that you will find once you click the drop down button on the left side of the category.

You can easily get rid of each item per category by hovering over it and click the "X" that appears on the right most of the topic's panel.

Don't forget to save your settings, or you'll have to click "X" on each weird topic you want to get rid of all over again.
