Nina Dobrev ‘Vampire Diaries’: Is Elena Actress Putting Ian Somerhalder Issues Behind For Comeback While Ratings Sink?

Nina Dobrev was a key part of "The Vampire Diaries" since the show's inception, as her character, Elena, has become a fan favorite over the years, which is why everyone was shocked when the actress announced she'd be leaving the show - now, months after Nina Dobrev's "Vampire Diaries" departure, the show's having trouble gaining back its viewers.

A few weeks back, it was reported that the series' crew was angry at Ian Somerhalder, Dobrev's former boyfriend, for allegedly pushing her out of the show over the uncomfortable situation of having gotten married to "Twilight" actress Nikki Reed - and it appears everyone on set is rooting for Nina Dobrev's "Vampire Diaries" return.

According to Celebrity Dirty Laundry, despite the crew claiming Nina Dobrev's "Vampire Diaries" return as the show's ratings plummet, the actress is standing firm in regards of her decision to depart, carefully choosing what her next project will be - and not wanting to work with Somerhalder ever again.

Movie News Guide reports that the show is suffering from serious viewership issues since Dobrev left to pursue other projects and Somerhalder even said he'd be willing to step back to let the show breathe - but Austin Stowell's girlfriend is just not interested in coming back.

Even despite the low ratings of the show that turned her into a star, Nina Dobrev's "Vampire Diaries" return seems unlikely, and while it's being reported that Somerhalder is relieved because it means less drama between his ex and his wife, insiders say he still knows it's the beginning of the end for the supernatural show - not that he's about to share that with the media.

"I personally think everyone thought it was going to be a huge departure after Elena [Nina Dobrev's "Vampire Diaries" character] was gone," Somerhalder recently told Variety. "By virtue of the fact that it wasn't a huge leap for mankind, as far as changing it up, there were some differences that sort of mixed up the formula."

It seems like the show won't survive without Nina Dobrev's "Vampire Diaries" Elena for too long, despite what her ex is saying.
