Kristin Cavallari’s brother Michael has been found dead three days after he was reported missing.
Michael Cavallari was believed to have been driving from California to Chicago when his car was found abandoned close to a gas station on the side of a Utah highway on November 27.
Kristin informed fans about the devastating news herself.
“We want to thank everyone for their love, support and prayers during this very difficult time,” The Hills star said in a statement. “We have just been informed by the authorities my brother’s body has been found. This is a very painful time and we are still processing it all. We kindly ask everyone please respect our privacy during our time of grieving.”
The Grand County Sheriff’s Office said his body was being transported to the Office of the Utah Medical Examiner to determine the cause of death.
They said in a statement: "At approximately 10:30 a.m. search crews located remains believed to be that of Michael Cavallari. At this time, the body is being transported to the Office of the Utah Medical Examiner for positive identification and to determine the cause of death.
"The search crews were searching the Salt Wash area, near exit 175 on I-70 in Grand County. The terrain where the body was located is a steep and very rocky area."
Michael was reported missing on December 5, but his car was found abandoned on the side of the road of I-70 in Utah on November 27. It has also been revealed that the 30-year-old was arrested just five days before this discovery.
Kristin took to Instagram on December 7 to update fans on the situation, sharing an adorable photo from when the pair were younger. “I appreciate all the concern, thoughts and prayers that have been extended to me and my family,” she wrote. “We remain hopeful and I will share any news that we receive. I have such gratitude for those that have shared their support.”
Kristin is married to NFL quarterback Jay Cutler and they welcomed their third child, daughter Saylor James, on November 23.
Kristin rose to fame in the MTV reality series Laguna Beach and she also starred in spin-off show The Hills alongside Lauren Conrad and Heidi Montag.
