Leonardo DiCaprio Almost Attacked by a Shark and a Bear, The Titanic Star Confirms He Ate Bison Liver

In an interview, Titanic Leonardo DiCaprio talks about the highs and lows of his acting career. How he survived a shark attack? DiCaprio explains.

The actor is known for his methods to get into character. When filming The Revenant the actor spills the beans on the lengths and risks he had to go through in order to get into the role effectively.

The Revenant lead takes the role of a frontiersman who was left for dead after a bear attack in the woods. If that isn't movie-survival enough, DiCaprio details his near death experiences in the outdoors.

One time, while filming, DiCaprio had to wear elk skin and bear fur that weighs a hundred pounds in the frozen river.

As an outdoorsman, he has a passion for scuba diving but during a South African vacation, he was almost attacked by a snapping shark just because half of a tuna fish bait got stuck in the cage. Was he scared?

The guys there said that has never happened in the 30 years they'd been doing it.

Not only is he passionate with the great outdoors and extreme sports but he almost died during a sky diving trip when his parachute malfunctioned. Thankfully, he had a back up chute.

But let's take a slower beat and see what else he did to get into character because DiCaprio's character as a woodsy man trying to survive the frozen wilderness forced him to eat bison liver during the production of The Revenant.

He details the gritty food he had to ingest for the revenge thriller:

The bad part is the membrane around it. It's like a balloon. When you bite into it, it bursts in your mouth.

The 41 year old will do anything to get into character and that includes risking his own physical health in below zero temperatures while wearing heavy fur, make up and prosthetics and enduring a bear attack that almost cost him his life because the female bear thought he was attacking her cubs while filming The Revenant.

The film is set to debut in a limited release during Christmas Day and will hit theaters on January 8, 2016.
