Edward Norton's Fundraising Campaign for HONY Syrian Refugee Was a Success

The life of a Syrian refugee was posted last week in the Humans of New York, a photography blog. With thousands of likes and shares on Facebook, it even garnered the President's attention. The story of the man, known as The Scientist, has touched the hearts of many including Edward Norton as reported in People.

The 46-year old actor is determined to come up with donations for the Syrian scientist.

Here's a brief summary of the story:

The man, known only as The Scientist, was a Syrian refugee who only wanted to help humanity by creating inventions. When the war started, he lost his family after their building was hit by a missile, taking the life of his wife. In the aftermath of this event, he was also diagnosed with stomach cancer.

Norton expressed his empathy for this man. He was even moved to tears after reading the story. He wanted to extend his hand to offer help for the scientist's family.

The actor initiated a fundraiser for the Syrian scientist. He put up the cause through a website Crowdrise. He wants to inspire more people, and encourage them to help out the man when he moves to America.

He said on the website, "I saw this story on one of my favorite sites, Humans of New York, and it moved me to tears. This man has suffered profound loss that would crush the spirit of many people and yet he still passionately wants a chance to contribute positively to the world,"

Norton added: "Everything we raise here will go to help this family so that the father can get the medical treatment he needs to live and pursue his work, and his family can build a new stable life after their tragedy."

As of this time, about $400,000 were raised for The Scientist because of the determination of HONY and the actor.
