Extra Juicy or Just Plain Rotten? Why is Grape Milk Taking The Internet By Storm?

Have you heard of the latest drink trending online? It's not homemade boba, matcha, or anything involving cinnamon - and it's not even your typical flavored chocolate or strawberry milk - it's grape milk! I'll wait until your face relaxes from the unavoidable contortion it just experienced.

This eye-catching (and for some, controversial) beverage recently went viral on social media after Denmandale Dairy, a farm in Cortland, Ohio, shared a picture of their bright purple "Grape Whole Milk" on Instagram.

The dairy prides itself on its high-quality, farm-fresh milk and features other creative flavors like Chocolate Peanut Butter and Raspberry Cheesecake milk. And according to a source at the dairy, the grape flavor has sold out and won't be available again for another six weeks. Still, the creamy, grape-y goodness seems to be raising some eyebrows and getting some - shall we say, negative attention?

Here's what people are saying about grape milk:

  • ‍"Making grape milk should be a felony!"

  • "I'm calling the police. Who TF wants grape milk?"

  • "If I come over to your house and you ask me if I want some grape milk, we are not friends anymore."

Grape Milk Isn't New

While it's been catching some heat across Instagram and X over the last few days, a search for grape milk actually returns homemade recipes for the stuff going back several years. The interesting thing is that no recipe seems to be the same. Iterations vary from adding gelatin and sugar to a liquid derived from boiled red grape skins, followed by a quick set up in the fridge, then adding milk atop the gelatinous mixture (think stirring milk into small cubes of grape Jell-O in a glass); to simply blending milk and grapes together

Whatever the case, I think I'd be more inclined to try the version from Denmandale Farms before making my own. At least the Denmandale is just flavored milk, whereas the homemade stuff involves suppressing the urge to hurl as I discover chunks in my beverage. But don't let me dissuade you - if chewing your milk is your thing, proceed, my friends...proceed.
