Into The Woods Musical: Johnny Depp, Meryl Streep And Emily Blunt Join In The Magical Adventure! [VIDEO]

The Into the Woods musical will be coming to theaters around Christmas, just in time to take the entire family for a fun time at the movies. The Into the Woods musical is an adaptation from the original Broadway work of Stephen Sondheim, who was also responsible for the original songs of another Johnny Depp film, although hardly a family-friendly one: "Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street."

The first images of the Into the Woods musical have been released now, and they're featured in the cover of this week's Entertainment Weekly magazine. They show Johnny Depp's latest quirky venture as The Wolf in a fairy tale world that also has characters like Cinderella, Rapunzel and the Little Red Riding Hood.

Rob Marshall, a man known for musicals, directed the film: he's directed the screen adaptations of both "Chicago" and "Nine" before this.

The Into the Woods musical adaptation has been the talk of the town for a while now, as the media has been impressed with the endless possibilities of a cast as great as the one in the film: besides Depp, it boasts the talents of Emily Blunt, Anna Kendrick, Chris Pine, Christine Baranski, Tracey Ullman and the epic multiple award-winning actress Meryl Streep, who will be playing The Witch.

The Into the Woods musical tells the story of a Baker (James Corden) who gets cursed by a witch (Streep) who keeps him and his wife (Blunt) childless, according to website Screenrant.com. There's also a good mix of fairy tales in the style of "Once Upon a Time," as even Jack and his Magic Beans will be making an appearance.

The film is to be released by Disney, and as such some of the darker plots in the story will be held back to fit in to a more family-friendly audience - keeping in mind it's from the same author who penned Sweeney Todd, a gore musical if ever there was one.
