Michigan Man Found Guilty In Ohio Killing From 30 Years Ago: ‘I Made A Promise To Her The Day We Buried Her. I Promised I’d Never Stop’

Michigan Man Guilty Ohio Killing - A Michigan man, Andrew Gustafson, pleaded guilty from killing a 19-year-old girl back in 1983.

Janean Brown was killed during a Thursday night on 1983, after a night out. According to the Toledo Blade, she had gone out with Harold, her then boyfriend to a bar.

They had a few drinks and as they left, she saw Harold and a barmaid sharing a kiss. She left furious to her apartment with her best friend and then, due to the anger, she decided to go out again and find Harold.

"She was going to confront him," said Pam Purney, her then best friend.

Brown left the apartment at around 3:15 to 3:30 a.m. that night and never returned home. After that, the case was not easy to solve as there was no sure evidence of where she might have been.

Apparently, a van stopped as she was having a conversation with a fellow from a nursing home she knew. She got on to the van with someone that she seemingly knew, and that was the last thing anyone knew about Brown.

Later, the van was connected as belonging to Gustafson. Now, Gustafson was living in Birch Run, Michigan, ABC News noted. He did once lived outside Toledo, where Brown's body was found.

The connection between the Michigan man and the van was made years ago. Still, the authorities were never able to confirm that Gustafson was indeed linked to the killing in Ohio, up to now.

In the summer of 2013, he was arrested because new DNA tests ran proved that he was indeed not only linked, but he was the responsible man behind the killing of Brown after 30 years.

He pleaded guilty to involuntary manslaughter and rape charges on Monday in a Toledo, Ohio courtroom. A judge sentenced him to 15 years in prison, NY Times reported.

Brown had been brutally beaten and nearly decapitated.

"I made a promise to her the day we buried her. I promised I'd never stop - no matter what it took," confessed Purney about the case involving her best friend
