Amy's Kitchen Recall: 73,897 Cases Amy's Kitchen Frozen Products Feared To Be Contaminated With Listeria

Amy's Kitchen recall- Total of 73,897 cases of Amy's Kitchen frozen products will be voluntarily recalled due to its possible health hazard.

Amy's Kitchen recall was made after the best-selling natural and organic food brand received notice from one of its spinach suppliers of a probable presence of Listeria monocytogenes on its products.

A press release made by the Food and Drug Administration on March 22 includes the full details of Amy's Kitchen recall.  The agency noted that Amy's Kitchen brand is recalling all the products listed HERE from all its distributors and retailers.

"This recall is based on a recall notice from one of Amy's organic spinach suppliers that Amy's may have received organic spinach with the possible presence of Listeria monocytogenes," the family-owned company based in Petaluma, California mentioned in a statement to ABC News.

Amy's Kitchen recall is voluntary and has not received an advice from the FDA to recall it. However, to be vigilant on the possible health risk, the company decided to pull out the mentioned products from all its shelves.

Some of Amy's Kitchen recall products include Enchilada Verde Whole Meal, Spinach Lasagna, Gluten Free Tofu Scramble Breakfast Wrap and Brown Rice & Vegetables Bowl that are distributed all over Canada and the United States.

Amy's Kitchen products could be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes, an organism that can bring serious and fatal infection to pregnant women, newborns, older adults, and adults with weak immune systems.

 Listeriosis poisoning affects 1,600 people in the U.S. according to Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.  It is considered fatal as it is regarded as the 3rd leading cause of death caused by food poisoning.

Listeria can harm the pregnant women as it can cause meningitis and miscarriage.  Hospital care is need for people who were found to be infected with Listeria as 1 in 5 people can die due to the infection.

According to CNN, the California based food company hasn't received any illness report related to the possible listeria contamination, but Amy's Kitchen recall is being done "out of an abundance of caution."
